My VEGAN Birthday!!

For my 29th birthday this year, I had a totally vegan celebration and hopefully exposed a person or two to vegan food that's not scary at all, but rather just plain delicious!

For my birthday party, I made all vegan desserts and foods. We had kalamata olive and fennel pasta, mini black bean cakes with fresh mango salsa, veggies, veggie dip, fruit, raisin-filled cookies, peach pie, pecan pie, apple pie, white bean dip, guacamole, german potato salad, broccoli salad, fresh mulled cider and more.

On my actual birthday, I made lots of my grandma's raisin-filled cookies (the vegan version, recipe posted in an earlier blog entry) and I gave them to all of my neighbors along with the recipe and also took them to work. People seemed a little wary of trying the cookies which proudly proclaimed they were vegan, but once people got up the courage to try them, they loved them!

Also on my birthday, for the whole entire day, I left my Facebook status asking anyone who wanted to give me a gift to please consider eating vegetarian or even better, vegan, for the day. A couple people took me up on the suggestion, which made me very excited!

I was happy to use my special day to help some animals and make the world a little less cruel, even if just for a few hours in my little corner of the world.
